Comunidad Connect supports Nicaraguan communities by matching social, economic and environmental opportunities with local and global resources

Tourism has such a large impact on the economy, the environment, and the culture of the host community. Our Sustainable Tourism program maximizes the benefits and minimizes the detriments of tourism on these three areas.

Sustainable Tourism is a unique way for travelers, students, families, and groups to experience Nicaragua. The cultural interaction and insight that comes with a service project and a homestay with a Nicaraguan family cannot be replicated with traditional tourism. Many of our volunteers have expressed that their trips were eye-opening and even life-changing.

We develop projects based on the  volunteer’s experience and interests while meeting important community needs. Volunteers can take Spanish classes, participate in a range of organized activities and excursions, or independently explore Nicaragua in their free time. Each project and experience is unique.

We welcome volunteers during the entire calendar year.

Sustainable Tourism Results

1,314 local beneficiaries including teachers, students, and co-op members

Hundreds of young people have volunteered their time with Comunidad Connect, and have come away with life-changing experiences. They have worked alongside their Nicaraguan hosts building bus stops and trash cans, painting murals, planting school gardens, and teaching everything from English to soccer. They studied Spanish and grew to understand the Nicaraguan culture. Most importantly, they learned of their privilege and the responsibility of being a world citizen.
