When and how did you become part of Comunidad Connect? What drew you to the organization?
I joined CC in 2026, recruited by my friend Eurel, for a new program that had started in the community: Deaf Connection. What caught my attention was the way the organization shapes its vision to help in the best possible way and how it goes about providing that help. The family-like, calm, and flexible atmosphere you feel here is also very appealing.
Since you started, what are 2 or 3 moments, experiences, or memories that have stayed with you the most?
Being able to reconnect with the Deaf community after having been involved for almost 20 years and then putting it on pause was deeply rewarding.
Taking part in arranging the donation of chairs to the school for the Deaf, and watching the shipment arrive from Santiago on motorcycles, was quite a memorable sight.
Is there a person, family, community, program, or experience that has had a special impact on you? Why?
Overall, every part of it has had an impact. I’ve been a schoolteacher my whole life, so this is something new, and every day brings a new experience to learn from and enjoy. Before, perhaps, things had become a bit monotonous.
What aspect of your work with Comunidad Connect are you most proud of?
Being able to contribute my small grain of sand to the community, for its benefit and development, and in my case, specifically to the inclusion of the Deaf community.
What does being part of Comunidad Connect mean to you, and what do you hope for the organization’s future?
Being part of Comunidad Connect means taking on an active commitment to sustainable development, community empowerment, and working alongside people, not just for them. It represents an opportunity to join forces to improve access to health care, basic infrastructure, and socioeconomic well-being, always keeping the dignity and voice of the communities I can help at the center.
